Silja Hauksdottir

Silja is a writer/director from Reykjavík, Iceland, who has worked extensively in television, film and commercials.

Silja directed her first feature film, Dis, in 2004, adapted from a best selling novel she co-wrote. Dis was nominated for Best Feature at the Nordic Film Council Awards in 2005.

Since then, Silja directed the well-reviewed documentary, The Choir, about a lively group of Icelandic female singers touring Italy. She has also worked as a writer for Stelpurnar (The Girls), a TV sitcom which won Icelandic Film Awards in 2005 for Best TV Series (fiction) and Best Actress.

Silja is currently working on a new feature, Chance of Rain, which she developed at the Binger Film Lab in Amsterdam, during fall 2005. For the last three years Silja has directed commercials and developed other projects where she takes great joy in contributing to selling stuff she can not afford herself.

She joined Saga Film last fall, and has since then directed various projects; from “docucommercials” in Africa for Unicef, to image/branding commercials for banks and biscuits.
