Last days of the Arctic
Sagafilm has yet another documentary in the pipelines. The story is called “Last days of the Arctic” and is a portrait of Icelandic photographer Ragnar Axelsson, or RAX.
Very few photographers have chosen to dedicate their carrier to the
Northern most regions of the world. “FACES OF THE NORTH” have
been RAX’s passion for the past 25 years. During that time he has
traveled the rugged and harsh terrain of the North capturing the
harmony between man and nature.
Through the art of this great photographer we are going to sense
the feeling of both climate change and of vanishing lifestyles.
Sagafilm will join RAX on a couple of his long term projects, such
as the round-up of sheep in Landmannalaugaafrett in Iceland,
and as he prepares his next big trip to Greenland. In Greenland
we will meet people who are so intertwined with nature, that
they are more afraid of government officials than of a starving,
eager polar bear in a killing mood.
This portrait of this great documentary photographer is going to
be 90 minutes, and the aim of the film is to show the human faces
of climate change, through the eyes of RAX´s art.
The documentary was pitched both at Below Zero in Tromsö in January
and at HotDocs in Canada in May 2009. It recieved great response and
negotiations with six international TV-channels are underway.
Estimated release is the autumn of 2010.
