The shifts air in FinlandThe Night, Day and Prison shift series have enjoyed unparalleled success in Iceland which hasn't gone unnoticed by international TV and distribution companies. YLE, the Finnish National Broadcaster is the first international TV company to purchase the all of the three series through distributor ShineReveille, who also handle series such as The Office, Biggest Loser, The Tudors and Ugly Betty. The broadcaster, so impressed with the first two series, bought all three without seeing the Prison Shift, which is widely regarded to be one of the best series aired in Iceland.
YLE's TV1 is Finlands most watched TV station with almost 50% share, according to figures released in 2008. It will be exciting to find out whether the intensely dark humour of the Shift series, directed by Ragnar Bragason, will prove as big a hit in Finland as it did in Iceland.
