Sagafilm breaks records with 29 nominations at the Icelandic Film and Television Awards

The reading of the nominations for the Icelandic Film and Television Awards this year was an unusually repetitive affair with Sagafilm being nominated at least once in 16 out of the 22 categories.

The crown jewel of Sagafilm's production in 2009 was the feature film "Mr. Bjarnfredarson" which has become one of the most nominated film ever at the Icelandic Film and Television awards with 11 nominations, including: Best Film, Director, Actor in a leading role (for all three male leads), Actress in a leading role, Script and Cinematography.  The film has been lavished with praise by critics and the general public alike who have flocked to see the film.

"The Prison Shift", which is the last installment of the TV series the film is is based on, broke an an impressive record with 13 nominations, the most for any TV show in the awards' history.  5 of the nominations are shared between the film and the TV show.

Romantic comedy series "Astridur" received 5 nominations including Best TV Series, Actress in a Leading Role and Script while legal drama "The Court" received four nominations including Best TV Series, Actor in a Leading Role and Actress in a Leading Role.  Sagafilm received an additional two nominations for Best Short Film: "Epic Fail" and Best Variety Show: "Logi Live."

"It's been an incredibly good year, as the nominations clearly show" says Kjartan Thordarson, Sagafilm's CEO.  "We've produced the the nation's favourite film and TV show in 2009 as well as most of the runners up.  Most of our scripted programming is nominated as well our only live variety show.
