Loftleiðir Icelandic Airlines

Sagafilm is producing a documentary on Loftleiðir Icelandic Airlines. Telling the story of the company growth and how it became the first Icelandic corporation to expand beyond the geographical boundaries of Iceland.

The film tells the story of Loftleiðir, Icelandic Airlines from the very start in
1944. Reflecting the spirit of the pioneers, the fight of the employees for their company and how Loftleiðir Icelandic Airlines changed the airfare business as the first low fare company in the world.

When Loftleiðir Icelandic Airlines decided to lead the way in offering low fare air tickets, all hell broke loose within the IATA-companies, mostly owned by the states at the time. Loftleiðir price policy became a political issue on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Loftleiðir Icelandic Airlines was in the frontline of the pioneers creating a tourist
business in Iceland and the company was one of the first to embrace computers in daily business.

The innovative work of Loftleiðir Icelandic Airlines employees didn't only affect
flights to and from Iceland, it changed the way people travel around the world today.
