The Prison ShiftFangavaktin In THE PRISON SHIFT we follow the trio to jail where Georg and Daniel serve time for their involvement in the death of hotel manager Gugga, their ex-boss. It doesn’t take long for Olafur to join them, for un-related charges, although as per usual, Georg plays his part in his woes. Hilarity ensues as the three deal with life behind bars and new characters get introduced. OVERVIEW Sagafilm presents the comedy-drama THE PRISON SHIFT directed by Ragnar Bragason.
Written by Ragnar Bragason, Jóhann Ævar Grímsson and the main cast, this 7 part TV series is a sequel to the massive hits THE NIGHT SHIFT and DAY SHIFT which won the 2007 and 2008 Icelandic Film and Television Awards for Best Television Show and an audience award as the Most Popular Television Show in 2007.
Georg and Daniel are not on speaking terms after finding themselves in jail for their involvement in Gugga’s (their ex boss) death. Georg is soon up to his old tricks, preying on the weak, trying to find someone who will take his orders while Daniel retreats further into his shell, completely unable to cope with prison life.
Georg earns the trust of Kenneth, a hapless inmate, who he is able to boss around but finds that he is no substitute for Olafur Ragnar. He concocts a plan to get Olafur imprisoned which fails but it doesn’t take long for Olafur to end up in jail anyway, with a little help from Georg.
What ensues has been described as some of the best moments in Icelandic TV history with The Prison Shift shattering all previous viewing records for Channel 2 who aired the series.
The series was shot on RED format in the summer of 2009 and premiered in November 2009.
